Ingram and men's bball endorse Cooper; Ingram and Lee clash on Twitter, Facebook

With only hours left before voting closes on the 2011 student body president campaign, eliminated candidate Rick Ingram has endorsed candidate Mary Cooper over her opponent, Ian Lee, saying he “absolutely” supports her candidacy.

Meanwhile, supporters have taken their frustrations and arguments to Twitter and Facebook, where they debated candidate motivations and encouraged students to vote.

This morning, Lee sent an email to Ingram’s former supporters, asking them to consider voting for him in the election.

The email was provided to the Daily Tar Heel by Ingram, but was received by most students who signed Ingram’s petition:

Ingram then posted to his Facebook wall, telling students that the email was not approved by him, and that he does not support Lee’s campaign. He urged students to vote for Cooper.

Lee then responded to the post, arguing that his email only told students to vote, and did not imply an endorsement. (Former Board of Elections Chairman Ryan Morgan joined in and provided a haiku.)

Lee and Ingram’s former campaign manager, Billy Klutz, then engaged on the topic on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Cooper’s supporters seemed more enthusiastic about another set of endorsements — those from members of UNC’s men’s basketball team:

Students can vote tonight until 10 p.m. Results will be announced around 10:30 p.m. in Carroll Hall, room 111. For more information on voting, visit the Board of Elections website, or follow @dailytarheel on Twitter for updates.
