UNC Bucket List #43: Get a letter to the editor and a kvetch published in the DTH

I have a voice in my head that provides ridiculously amusing and usually wildly inappropriate commentary all day long.

Only infrequently do I share by witty observations about the world to my friends, but luckily they have grown used to my remarks and often find them just as humorous as I do.

Every Friday, I look forward to the Daily Tar Heel Kvetching Board just as much as any other Carolina Student, so much so that it has become a ritual to read them during my 9 a.m. biology class and try to stifle my laughter. I think some students only pick the newspaper up just to read that column.

On a whim I decided to send in my own Kvetch about something that had been bothering me the entire semester, and it was a thought that I had shared with some classmates that had also shared the same view as me on the “issue.”

Maybe I just had good luck, or maybe there just wasn’t that many funny entries that week, but my entry made it in the paper on April 8. Seeing since this is number 43 on UNC’s bucket list, I recommend everyone try tirelessly to get a kvetch published. I have no doubt that everyone on campus has something funny to say.

I recommend making sure the kvetch isn’t a personal attack, although a few have been known slip into the paper. Make sure it is applicable to at least some of the campus population.

Also, timing is everything. Many kvetches this week centered on the now infamous Morrison robbery, or Humans vs. Zombies when that was happening. There are some topics consistently addressed: fraternity and sorority stereotypes, inappropriate sexual encounters, and of course, professors and classes.

Want to give kvetching a shot? Send your one-to-two sentence entries to opinion@dailytarheel.com, subject line ‘kvetch.’
