An April day at UNC is full of extraordinary beauty, from trees with delicate pink blossoms to skies that showcase our school’s spirit.
But April is also the perfect time to experience celestial wonders on warm nights. According to UNC’s Morehead Planetarium website, this month is best for observing Saturn, the second largest planet in our solar system and the one with the most fabulous rings.
Nasa.gov writes that this month finds the Earth in-between the Sun and the planet. On April 4, Saturn was in direct opposition to the sun, rising in the east as the sun sank into the west. This means that April is the best time to see this planet, which is closer than it will be all year.
As with any celestial gazing, remember that clear nights and areas with low electric light pollution work best.
