Tonight at 6:00 PM, UNC Relay for Life begins on Fetzer Field.
Attendees to the event can enjoy entertainment and purchase baked-goods and other items that contribute to the on-site fund-raising that lasts until the end of the relay on Saturday.
For students who are new to Relay for Life, the event recruits participants who raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society and UNC Hospitals.
Di An, a student on the committee for sponsorship and donations, spoke of the ability of the event to motivate participants.
“People talk about their stories and struggles with cancer,” she said. “It’s very inspiring.”
Though Relay for Life is a time for fun and bonding, there is a serious aspect as well. The Luminaria Ceremony, Di said, remembers those who passed away from cancer, supports those who are fighting today, and gives thanks for those who have survived.
This is an opportunity for all of us as a community to raise funds toward a wonderful cause while commemorating those who have fought the hard struggle.
