Not even heavy rain could put a damper on one of UNC’s busiest weekends.
Last Friday, thousands of parents and family members flocked to Chapel Hill to celebrate Family Weekend. UNC had several events, including an out-of-state and transfer family reception, a Tar Heel barbeque, the classic Tar Heel Town pregame festivities, and a continental breakfast featuring the chancellor himself.
Family Weekend isn’t just a time for students to reunite with their guardians during the semester, but also an opportunity for parents to experience what their hard-earned money is paying for.
The weekend was also highlighted by the Tarheel’s historic drubbing of Idaho, putting up a school record 66 points. Bryn Renner had little problem tearing apart the Vandal’s defense, throwing three touchdowns in the first half before being replaced by backup Marquise Williams. The Heels also wore a special helmet in honor of Military Appreciation Day.
Despite the poor weather, tailgaters were out in full force. Cheers could be heard around campus leading up to the afternoon game.
“The weather was a little bit of a downer, but the Heels won and it was great time,” said freshman Lea Palmer. “I’m glad my parents had the opportunity to have the Carolina experience.”
The successful throttling of Idaho, paired with several other enjoyable activities, made Family Weekend great for Tar Heels young and old.
