In the midst of the chaos that is class registration, staff writer Sam Shaw stopped students on campus to ask "How did your registration go?" Photos by Sam Shaw.
Stephon Howie
Year: Freshman
Major: Undecided, leaning toward Econ and Spanish or Pre-Pharmacy
Howie's challenge was narrowing down his major. He is taking a workmanlike approach to his major requirements.
“I thought about what I needed this year and what I can do next year,” he said. “I'm taking three classes that I have to take and two that I'm taking out of interest.”
“I used MyEdu and skimmed through the grade distribution, but I didn't take it too strongly into consideration.”
James Moore
Year: Senior
Major: Information Science
Moore confessed that he had already taken most of the classes he wanted to take.
“With this go-round, I had to take these classes, so it doesn't matter if I like them.”
"It's basically all electives. There's nothing I'm looking forward to taking. I usually like to get my own opinions about classes."
Kylie McCoy
Year: Senior
Major: Broadcast Journalism
McCoy, who will graduate in May, has already handled most of her major requirements.
“I procrastinated on the gen eds. I'm in 17 hours, and almost every class I'm in is a gen ed.”
Emma Smith
Year: Senior
Major: English
Smith was pleased to be profiled for this article, as it meant she could prove to her parents that she was actually enrolled.
“I just looked at what I needed to fill for my requirements. Since it's my last semester I filled it in with classes I wanted to take — like history of Rome,” she said.
She used Koofers, a professor rating website, to scope out her classes.
Ege Partal
Year: Freshman
Major: Undecided, leaning toward business
Partel had a clear strategy for his semester.
“Last semester I spent time to explore classes from different concentrations. This semester, I've came to an agreement so I'm taking prerequisites and major requirements for business.”
However, he said he might have to take classes in which he is not interested to stay in the honors program.
“I talk to business and politics majors about which classes I should take at the same time, so I can have the least amount of stress time,” he said.
