When I discovered the high would be a whopping 70 degrees today, I almost cried of happiness.
Which might not be saying a lot because today was a Monday and I usually just cry anyway.
If you’re like me and you suddenly realized you’ve forgotten how to deal with a temperature higher than the grade on your first philosophy paper, here are some ideas to help you enjoy this fantastically disorienting weather we’re having:
Walk to class
Tired of being on the receiving end of one of the cruelest pranks in the world (when the bus passes you ten minutes before your class starts)? Take a hard pass on the bus instead! Walking to class on a nice day means more quality time with our beautiful campus and, of course, that back sweat you’ve been missing.
Eat outside
The last thing anyone needs right now is more stress. So, instead of playing Hunger Games in the dining hall, spare yourself the time and wrinkles and eat outside! There are plenty of tables around the Student Union and Lenoir, not to mention just about every other grassy area on campus. You’ve got options, people.
Skip the gym
For those of us who loathe the feeling of being imprisoned in the gym during the bleak midwinter — now is our time. Take advantage of the nice and breezy afternoons by moving your workout outdoors. There are plenty of on-campus locations, as well as some running routes around the Chapel Hill area, that guarantee a good conditioning.
Hit the Quad
I miss those days when it was socially acceptable and physically possible to lay in the grass all day and play with random dogs. And if you’re the college kids I know you are, you do too. I implore you — dog owners, music lovers, frisbee flingers, and procrastinators alike — come back to the Quad (weather permitting).
Ice cream
I scream, you scream, we all scream when we can eat ice cream outside in February and not freeze to death. It is a fantastic time to be alive, my friends, so (frozen) treat yo self.
