With college T-shirt day looming around the bend and your friends from high school texting you for advice on where to go, the spirit of a UNC tour guide is in everyone these days. I spent as much time doing work yesterday as I did sending lengthy messages to high school seniors about why I came here. Mostly because I wanted to, but partly because it felt like the perfect excuse to evade work.
On a rainy, gloomy Tuesday, I decided to ask people what they would say to convince someone to Carolina. This is what I got:
Lane Dougherty, Junior
"The diversity. I grew up in a small town that was pretty conservative. When I came here, my roommate and I disagreed on everything, but we still got along great and became good friends!"
Madison Malfitano, Sophomore
"Everyone wants everyone else to succeed. People will hold the door open for you and help you, whether that's in a classroom setting or a literal door sense."
Sia Kennedy, First Year
"The professors are absolutely amazing. In high school they tell you professors don't care about you, but all of the professors actually really care about my well being as a student and how I'm doing."
Arslan Ahmad, Junior
"The community. There's always something going on. You never feel left out."
Betsy Gorman, First Year
"Everyone looks good in Carolina blue. By the way, go to hell Duke."
