PIT TALK

From Shakira to puppies, candidates show off their lighter sides

Last year, it was Brooklyn Stephens and a horse. The year before, it was Nash Keune and a narwhal castle. And now, in a much tamer election season, one candidate has made a Youtube splash while another lured votes with a puppy in the Pit. All three candidates this year are distinct in their public images.

Keep calm and take a break

It’s the most time of the year…almost. Unfortunately, there are a few exams to get out of the way first, and let’s face it — studying is a drag. Run a 5k: local races are coming up!

As the New Year approaches, millions of Americans make the resolution to get in shape or lose weight, and UNC students are no exception. The gym tends to fill with those ambitious enough to start an exercise routine, making it even more crowded and harder to find a machine than usual.

Playboy ranks North Carolina basketball number one

Today, the house that Hugh Hefner built released its rankings for the 2011-2012 college basketball season. That’s right, if you didn’t want to hear it from the AP or just wanted to hear it from someone with a little more…experience, Playboy teased its top 25 teams online. The teams will also headline the print magazine in December. Predictably, Playboy picked UNC to be the mack daddy of the upcoming season. But it also made some pretty bold predictions, for instance, picking Michigan State to finish the season ranked 13th or choosing Belmont, a team that nearly beat Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium, to round out the list.
