Did you know that UNC students get free access to Ancestry.com through UNC? Yeah I didn't either!
You can access it online through UNC Libraries here.
I discovered this through the other staffers at the DTH, and so I started my journey into the past.
I started with my great grandmother Doris Williams, who is currently 106 and living in Illinois. This pic is from last year, when she celebrated her 105th birthday with the extended family.
Talking to Doris is amazing — she was born in 1909 and has lived through the Roaring Twenties, the Great Depression and so many other huge events in American history.
Through her records such as census data and military records, I discovered that many of my family members had fought in WWI and WWII, and that the majority of the family has always lived in the North (as a solid Southerner myself, I was shocked)! I can't wait to delve into my mom's side of the family.
What other hidden gems does the UNC Chapel Hill E-Resources page hold?? It's definitely worth exploring.
