Welcome to the first blog post of the rest of your life. This is your formal introduction to The Onyen, the Daily Tar Heel’s first official satire blog.
The news is an important part of all of our lives here at The Daily Tar Heel and we happily spend much of our time immersed in it. It’s nice to take a gulp of fresh air and giggle at it.
We will never be the often-missed The Minor, but the passing of our favorite hyperlocal satire publication has left a swirling black hole of darkness in our hearts. We're gonna fill that hole with our own jokes.
We came up with the name "The Onyen" as a nudge at both "The Onion" and "The Only Name You'll Ever Need." After researching Twitter handles to call dibs on, we were crushed to find the name was taken.
You upperclassman might remember there was a publication called The Onyen a few years ago. With a tip of the hat from founders and UNC graduates Bradley Kirby and Allison Driskill, we've absorbed the name. We stole (with permission) the logo Brooke Eichenlaub made.
It is the will of the Twitter gods to make this blog, so we shall.
If you have any at all hate about our whimsy, please direct to @kelsaywhat on Twitter. Her New Year’s resolution is to clapback, so we must ask you to help her to keep that conviction.
