Nowadays, less is more. Minimalism has taken over Pinterest and Tumblr, introducing a simple, elegant and classic trend.
Here are five tips on how to make the most out of only the essentials:
1. Wear lots of gray. Black and white is a classic minimalist palette, but why have two colors when you can have one? Gray is definitely in style now and has the added benefit of making you look like a power plant worker when worn from head to toe. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also refer to this signature color as ~dark white~ or ~pastel black~.
2. Skip the bed frame. Nothing says elegance like a bare mattress on the floor of your outrageously large warehouse-turned-apartment. Don’t bother to push it against a wall in an attempt to use the space efficiently — just let it sit in the center. It’s more aesthetically pleasing that way.
3. Light your room with a single bulb hanging from the ceiling. In fact, take the bulb off and just let the ripped cord dangle in the air. This is great for mood lighting (that is, if you’re in the mood for pitch darkness).
4. Only eat quinoa. Not only is quinoa the trendiest of grains; it’s also essentially tasteless. Committing to eating only one food will eliminate excess in your diet (i.e. anything that has an actual flavor).
5. Give single word answers. Who has time for real conversations anyway? You’ve got an aesthetic to cultivate. Embracing this aspect of minimalism also makes homework a breeze. Twelve-page research paper? I don’t think so. Write “K” on a blank sheet of paper and call it a day.
