About as many voters as expected had cast their ballots at the East Franklin Street precinct poll in Chapel Hill as of 7:35 a.m., officials said.
Eleven residents had voted at the precinct, which includes Cobb Terrace and Bolin Heights Road, as well as parts of Rosemary Street and the UNC campus.
The voters cast their ballots for mayor, town council, school board officials and decided on the quarter-cent sales tax increase referendum.
“If you don’t vote, you can’t bitch,” said Cam Hill, who voted at the poll this morning.
Ernie Quade, the Democratic judge for the precinct, said she expects to see a decline in voters this year.
“A smaller amount, as a majority of people, voted early,” she said.
Voter Jim Bullard said habit and the quarter-cent tax referendum brought him out to the polls.
“I always vote,” Bullard said.
