Every day this week, the Chapel Hill Public Library will debut a trading card, designed by a local artist to feature a banned book, as a part of Banned Books Week. This week celebrates the freedom to read nationwide.

Sunday's book is "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison.

Reason for banning: In 2013, some North Carolina parents said it had "no literary value" due to language and violence.

Artist: Libby Fosso

Artist's Statement: "I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me." Clippings from contemporary newspapers show how relevant the book is today.

You can pick up a copy of these trading cards at six locations on and around UNC's campus.

  • Chapel Hill Public Library
  • Flyleaf Books
  • Davis Library
  • Undergraduate Library
  • Sloan Art Library in Hanes Art Center
  • Park Library in Carroll Hall
  • Stone Center Library
  • SILS Library in Manning Hall
