County commissioners debate the use of hunting dogs

At a Tuesday night meeting, the Orange County Board of Commissioners approved steps to enhance public safety laws pertaining to the use of hunting dogs during deer season. The approval authorized the distribution of informational brochures and public awareness flyers throughout northern Orange County — the designated deer-hunting area for the county. The decision also authorizes the N.C.


Town council debates rezoning recommendations

At a meeting Monday night, the Chapel Hill Town Council discussed rezoning recommendations developed by the Glen Lennox Area Neighborhood Conservation District Committee. The proposal would create Neighborhood Conservation Districts for the single-family sections of the Glen Lennox neighborhood.


County Commissioners meet with Mebane to discuss partnership

Economic development was on everyone’s mind Thursday night when the Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Mebane City Council met in Hillsborough. Commissioners and council members celebrated the expansion of AKG of America, Inc., into Orange County and within Mebane city limits. The company, which manufactures brazed aluminum heat exchangers, created 40 new jobs and has expanded the area’s tax base, officials said.

At the Thursday night Orange County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, the board discussed the benefits a proposed quarter-cent sales tax could offer. Orange County’s planning and economic development staff presented an overview of the types of infrastructure and development that could happen with the help of increased revenue the proposed tax could provide.
