Most students learn to drive in a traditional Driver’s Ed and Behind the Wheel class … but when you are the daughter of the President of the United States, it’s not quite the same.
Malia Obama, Barack Obama’s oldest daughter, was taught how to drive by none other than the Secret Service.

The Secret Service had to teach Malia how to drive, and she practiced with them because driving with her parents would pose a major security risk.
Malia, who will turn 17 this year, can now drive by herself — but she always has Secret Service agents tailing closely behind.
Obama said in an interview that being able to drive by herself was important for Malia because it allows her to live as normal a life as possible. He even joked that now that she is legally permitted to drive on her own, “As I warn people, look out DC.”
The public has had a unique chance to watch Malia and Sasha Obama grow up and see or hear about their milestones.

And, next year, the world will once again watch eagerly as she experiences another big milestone — college applications.
