UNC students and faculty held a walkout Tuesday protesting UNC-system President Margaret Spellings' first day on the job. The protest was organized by various organizations, including the UNC-Chapel Hill BOG Democracy Coalition and Faculty Forward. Pro-Confederacy groups from Orange County and Alamance County demonstrated in support of Silent Sam at the base of the Confederate monument Sunday afternoon. Community members protesting the pro-Confederacy groups clashed with the demonstrators. Students, led by Leah Osae, organized a counter-protest outside of Morehead Planetarium.
