A week ago, Larry Nassar, team doctor at U.S.A. Gymnastics and physician at Michigan State University, was sentenced up to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting hundreds of young women in the Team U.S.A. and M.S.U. gymnastics programs.

Lawrence G. Nassar, former physician of the American gymnastics team and Michigan State University doctor, was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison Jan. 24. In the highly publicized trial, Nassar was charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct with more than 150 young women.

Last Sunday, the Golden Globes took a darker turn — literally — as Hollywood showed up to the awards ceremony donning all-black ensembles in support of an initiative called Time’s Up. Thanks to this push to combat sexual assault in Hollywood and beyond, the Time’s Up legal defense fund will offer subsidized legal support to people who experience sexual harassment in the course of the careers. Instead of shoving their manicured hands in front of the “mani cam,” celebrities on the red carpet spoke passionately about sexual harassment and women’s empowerment.

The DeWitt Wallace Center for Media & Democracy at Duke University announced Monday that it was rescinding an award honoring prominent journalist Charlie Rose given in September 2000. Duke is the latest in a growing number of universities revoking honors from Rose, who has been accused of sexually harassing eight women over the course of his career.
