Events on campuses across the country this week have yielded a monumental reaction. Some pundits have denounced the actions of activists at the University of Missouri and Yale University as “idiotic and unfortunate,” while other writers defend activists’ mistrust of the media as a fair reaction to a history of unbalanced and racist coverage of race issues.

So I recently found out from the Coker Arboretum that lighting is, apparently, a pretty big deal in the plant world. I say "apparently" because my experience in botany peaked with growing peas in my third-grade science class. Keeping this in mind, when I visited Los Angeles earlier this year, a very persuasive street vendor convinced me I really needed to buy a plastic terrarium sphere thing.

CORRECTION: The original version of this story misrepresented how survivors' information is shared with Delta Advocates. Delta Advocates share information they hear from survivors only with Cassidy Johnson, gender violence services coordinator. Johnson only follows up with students who indicate that they want her to do so. The story has been updated to reflect these changes.

This weekend, we had writers cover three different events specific to man's best friend. For people who have never had a dog, an annual event where people drive in from Washington state to mingle with other dog owners is probably ridiculous — and frankly, I don't think there's any way for someone who's never owned a dog to understand that.

There are currently 13 members of the UNC Board of Trustees. Eight were selected by the Board of Governors, four by the governor and the other is the student body president. For a body making decisions vital to current students, this mix of representation seems inadequate.

I played fantasy football once in 2011. My friend made me enter her dad’s league because they just needed another body. (That’s also how I made this newspaper squad.)

With Hurricane Joaquin looming, I think it's only fair to recount my first experience with a hurricane (or at least the first I remember). The year was 1999. My family was living in one of the 45 houses we moved between in Delaware, and Hurricane Floyd was all the rage. I still fondly look back on the grating warning sounds every news source played when we turned on the TV. And it was… wet? OK, in all honesty, my first encounter with a hurricane was completely sleeping through the entirety of a storm with 130 mph winds.
