When faced with the threat of a TikTok ban, one of my primary concerns was losing all of the useful and important content I had saved. I mourned the videos on easy one-pot recipes, makeup tutorials, hidden gem travel spots and niche movie recommendations. I knew I couldn’t possibly sift through the thousands of videos I had saved since 2018, so I made my peace with the fact that it would all be lost to the void.

Since its introduction internationally in 2016, TikTok has become a popular social media site for college students. Indeed, the largest age demographic on TikTok is 18-24. But in April of 2024, Congress signed into law the Protecting American from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act which would force TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to either sell the app or shut it down within 270 days based on alleged concerns about data privacy and propaganda.

The inadequacy of student housing at UNC is undeniable. For the 2022-23 school year, nearly 600 students who applied before the priority deadline for housing were placed on a waitlist. For 2023-24, there were over 1,100, and last November the 2025-26 waitlist numbered over 1,340.
