The first Gilded Age was a time of technological, social and cultural transition which only came to its close with the crisis of WWI and the devastation of the Great Depression. Letter: 2-step-verification for email access is classist

Until the University is prepared to provide and fund texting plans to all students, the idea of requiring us to have phones on hand to use even library computers to check our emails is unreasonable and classist.

Without The Bookshop's quirky, convenient offerings, the immediate Chapel Hill area (for students without transportation) has become a literary desert of sorts. We need a good, local, independent bookstore. These kinds of bookstores are good for all aspects of a literary community: author, consumer and larger town or community — and they imbue towns like Chapel Hill with literary character.

As social media grows and becomes more popular, many Americans have found themselves caught in a “Privacy Paradox.” While consumers are increasingly willing to share personal information in order to use social media for no fee, paradoxically they are more and more concerned with privacy.

Letter: Lessons from Palestine on Police Militarization

SJP was particularly interested in attending this specific session when we heard of a resolution presented by the Durham2Palestine coalition, which demanded that Durham City Council immediately adopt a resolution halting any police exchanges or police trainings with Israel. The public had the chance to hear from both proponents and opponents of the resolution.
