Column: It’s OK, you can be proud to be American

|

Sometimes I leave conversations with Europeans questioning if I have any legitimate reason to be proud to be American. I’ve recently come to the conclusion that yes, I do, and I think today is an especially good day to explain why.

Letter: Gov. Pat McCrory has done well for N.C.

I want to discuss the article “McCrory and Cooper (hold first debate).” I do not take fault with the article, because it summarizes the debate. The debate was nasty, neglecting to discuss important economic issues in-depth, instead focusing on polarizing social issues.

Letter: Clinton is still a step forward for America

I don’t go to your school. I haven’t been in college since 1971. I’m a registered independent who’s so worried about this election that I’m contacting college newspapers in swing states. I hope you will indulge me.

Annie Kiyonaga

Column: With books, go home again

|

When I left home to go to school in North Carolina, my dad gave me a copy of Thomas Wolfe’s “Look Homeward, Angel.” Don’t think too directly about that correlation. It reliably makes me cry.

Viewpoints: They’re unsung, but they should not be forgotten

The basis of my viewpoint is built off the reality that no new statue will be built and no statue will be removed given the current climate. The Unsung Founders Memorial should not be overshadowed by a statue commemorating Confederate soldiers, but that is a fight for another viewpoint.

Letter: Self-care is better for students than stress

In the (editorial) “Midterms can hurt the mind, body and spirit — take care of yourself,” you address the difficulties that come alongside with midterms. You mention that although our GPA and grades are important, students undergo enormous amounts of stress during the midterm-season.

Letter: Vote out Pat McCrory for a better N.C.

In the North Carolina gubernatorial debate between Gov. McCrory and Roy Cooper, McCrory touted his economic record and slammed Cooper for trying to make the campaign about social issues. McCrory’s critique is hypocritical on two fronts.

Quick hits for Nov. 3, 2016

It’s 2016, UNC. There are more than two genders, there are people who don’t have genders and there are people who are fluid with their gender identity. All of that is OK!

Opinion: 'Ring before spring' can’t fix the gender wage gap

|

The phrase “ring before spring” describes the long-held belief that women should be engaged by the spring of their senior year to ensure their lifestyle post-graduation. While we mostly have moved on from the days of MRS degrees, many still view college as a way to snag a partner.

Column: Waiting in line for POTUS

|

I wrote this column waiting in line to see the president. I don’t know if I’ll get in. (I mean, I’ll know by the time I’m editing this column, but let’s keep a sense of suspense here.)
