Column: Try going to more live shows

|

One of my goals when I arrived at UNC two years ago was to attend as many concerts as possible as an undergraduate. Of course, like so many of my wide-eyed first-year hopes, I’ve fallen short of my goal to become immersed in Chapel Hill’s music scene.

Opinion: Can the police be vulnerable?

|

At least that is what legislators in Louisiana would have you believe. On May 26, a landmark bill was passed in the state to categorize police officers, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel as a group protected from hate crimes.

Column: Look for peace within the pages

Arriving back at Chapel Hill is a lot. It’s fun; don’t get me wrong. I’ve already been on lunch catch-up dates with around 300 people — I’m super popular, don’t be intimidated — and have had some version of the same small talk conversation with about 300 more.

Letter: UNC is committed to inclusivity

Letter: Let us unite against Donald Trump

Thanks for the thoughtful editorial on student activism in The Daily Tar Heel. My plea for the next 10 weeks is for activists to unite around the necessity of defeating Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Opinion: When we reflect on the past, we can plan for the future

|

As our board looks at the future of student activism in the coming year, we are inevitably drawn to the past. And when we dive into the archives of student activism at UNC, it’s downright easy to yearn for another era — to think that gone are the days of student activism in unity, of the protests that wove together students from across campus and from diverse backgrounds in support of common ideals.

Kvetching Board for Aug. 26, 2016

To the guy outside the SRC claiming a rhombus is just a square turned on its side, I hope you are not considering math as a major.

Letter: Peeples’ column cast Ives in bad light

Alexander Peeples’ column rightly casts doubt on the intellectual seriousness of UNC’s new environmental think tank. Climate research commissioned by Phil Berger is about as reliable as a tobacco study paid for by Phillip Morris.

Apply for the Opere administration! The executive branch of student government is now accepting applications for the positions outlined below to carry out the goals laid out in our platform.

Quick hits for Aug. 25, 2016

Seeing the first-year students happily eating lunch together brings us back to our humble start. We used to enjoy eating with people. Those memories deserve a thumbs-up. But now, please don’t talk to us in the dining hall. We just want to listen to our podcasts and avoid human contact for a moment.
