The UNC Music Department's Summer Jazz Workshop and concert series took place from June 26 to June 30. Students in musical performance learned jazz theory and improvisation, played in ensembles and partook in jam sessions. Journalism students also got to learn how to report on music news.
FallFest is an annual celebration welcoming students to campus in the fall. The 28th annual FallFest will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. following New Student Convocation.
Wilson Special Collections Library is hosting the second cohort of the Primary Sources Teaching Fellowship in June. The program funds up to eight fellows per year from the five Master's in Library Science programs in the UNC System to learn how to teach with primary sources.
Students explored grassroots art sites in the Triangle through a special topics art history course taught by Kathryn Desplanque, who hopes to use the course to create a map of the local art scene.
The General Alumni Association's next president, Veronica Flaspoehler, will assume office on July 17. Flaspoeher graduated from UNC in 2008 as a first-generation college student. She has been involved in volunteer work with the GAA since graduating. “It all came to be through my volunteer activities that I found this new passion and this love that I had for Carolina that I didn’t know as a student,” she said.
