Report Ranks State 28th in Federal Funds

N.C. taxpayers are receiving more services for every tax dollar they send to the federal government than they were 10 years ago. According to Federal Tax Burdens and Expenditure by State, a report recently published by the Tax Foundation, North Carolina received $1.06 in return for every tax dollar sent to the federal government, ranking the state 28th in the nation for federal funding. In 1990, North Carolina ranked 37th and received 93 cents for every tax dollar. In comparison, Connecticut received 62 cents for every dollar of federal taxes in 2000 -- a national low.

ASG Kicks Off Tuition Education Campaign

Students from UNC-system schools statewide gathered on the steps of UNC-Chapel Hill's George Watts Hill Alumni Center on Wednesday to kick off a campaign informing the public about the status of higher education funding in North Carolina. Officials from the UNC Association of Student Governments said they hope the "Keep N.C. Educated" campaign will focus attention on tuition increases and prompt voters to lobby legislators to increase state funding for the system.
