Five-member troupe to perform 'Hamlet'

"To be or not to be?" This 400-year-old question from "Hamlet" - arguably the most famous phrase in English theater - will present itself this week in the Elizabeth Price Kenan Theatre in the Center for Dramatic Art. The three-performance engagement will be put on by Actors From the London Stage, a five-member troupe based out of University of Notre Dame. Ritchie Kendall, professor of English and assistant dean for honors in the College of Arts and Sciences, said this performance will be unlike a typical production of "Hamlet" because there is no physical set.

Virtuoso duo to grace Duke stage

Tom Parker, of Parker Artists, a music management firm in New York City, knows a good thing when he hears it. Such was the case when he suggested that two of his signed artists - clarinetist Jon Manasse and pianist Jon Nakamatsu - join forces and collaborate on a musical journey in December 2004. Nearly two years later, after many rehearsals, performances and even an album recording, the duo will bring a variety of musical stylings to the stage Saturday at Duke University's Reynolds Theater for the second stop on their four-city fall tour.

Local acts to rock against cancer

In 2000's "Pay It Forward" Haley Joel Osment taught moviegoers how to make the world a better place by performing random acts of kindness. Following Osment's lead, Rock Against Cancer, a nonprofit, childhood cancer support organization based in Chapel Hill, will conduct the "Play It Forward" benefit concert at 5 p.m. Saturday at Southern Village's Market Street Green. The concert is being held in conjunction with National Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
