UNC held it's University Day celebration Friday, formally installing Chancellor Lee Roberts.
Former UNC Kenan-Flagler business school clinical professor Larry Chavis filed a complaint to begin a lawsuit for relief and damages around his loss of employment from the University. He alleges a First Amendment violation.
The University eliminated 20 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion positions, realigned 27 and redirected 5.3 million dollars of DEI funding.
According to UNC Student Body President Jaleah Taylor, UNC's Diversity and Inclusion office no longer exists.
"Certainly, everybody has the right to free speech, your fellow students, your faculty, your presidents, but we have the right to free speech too, and that's what tonight is all about," John Ondrasik, known by his stage name Five for Fighting, said.
"We are doing UNC a favor, reminding them that divestment now will save them from the disparagement of ethical failures," one speaker at the rally said.
