Full live album brings McLachlan nostalgia

MUSICREVIEW Sarah McLachlan Mirrorball: The Complete Concert 3 stars It's amazing how live music can be a time machine. Flash back eight years to a time when Sarah McLachlan and her determined clan of rock songstresses filled concert venues across the country with Lilith Fair. The year was 1998, and McLachlan recorded Mirrorball, the live album from which she would glean even more notoriety, not to mention a somewhat-overplayed live single.

The Old Ceremony successfully releases new CD at cradle

CONCERTREVIEW The Old Ceremony Saturday, Oct. 7 Cat's Cradle 4 stars "Who are you?" asked an audience member while The Old Ceremony lead singer Django Haskins introduced the other band members Saturday during the band's CD release party at Cat's Cradle. "Hell if I know," Haskins replied, shaking his head. If that retort applies to the band, too, then being undefined is certainly a beautiful thing.

Fuzzy melodic duo defies definition

MUSICREVIEW Viva Voce Get Yr Blood Sucked Out 3 stars There's a paradox of creativity in today's rock music: Bands are free to experiment as long as it fits into the corporate mold. In a world of four-minute radio edits and image-conscious record labels, gimmickless rock music such as Viva Voce's often fails to make a mark, apart from the occasional plug on "The O.C."

Stefy's first a guilty pop pleasure

MUSICREVIEW Stefy The Orange Album 3 stars From ABBA to A-Ha, pop music always has been a bastion for the guilty pleasure. And the California electro outfit, Stefy, is no exception. Music snobs might scoff at the band's bouncy, adolescent sound, but The Orange Album will be the CD they blast in their cars with the windows up and dance around to when no one is watching. With its debut album, Stefy has accomplished what most young bands only dream of: a pop record that's accessible to adults while still holding onto the teens and tweens that keep the gravy train rolling.

'XXX' star shines as mobster

MOVIEREVIEW "Find Me Guilty" 3 Stars More courtroom caricature than courtroom drama, Sidney Lumet's "Find Me Guilty" relies on quirky personalities and a surprisingly engaging performance from Vin Diesel to perk up the lackluster plot. The film dramatizes the longest criminal trial in American history - a 21-month-long effort to obliterate the Lucchese crime family of New Jersey. Diesel stars as Giacomo "Jackie Dee" DiNorscio, an average mobster with a heart of gold and one of the trial's 20 defendants in the 1987 legal extravaganza.
