By CAROLYN GRAY | October 11Walter Royal Davis went from truck driver to self-made millionaire. Though Davis didn't attend college, the Elizabeth City native gave tremendously to UNC - aiding in bringing more than $30 million to the University - and had Davis Library named in his honor. After high school, he traveled to California to become a truck driver, borrowing $1,000 to start a trucking business that transferred crude oil from wells to refineries.
