Bicyclists Take To The Streets

Devoting his hands to a trumpet instead of the handlebars, one student announced Friday the start of a communitywide bike ride down Franklin Street to promote cleaner forms of transportation. University students and residents of Chapel Hill and Carrboro gathered at the sundial in front of Morehead Planetarium at 5:30 p.m.

Weaver Dairy Widening OK'd

Chapel Hill Town Council members voted 8-1 Monday to send a proposal to the N.C. Department of Transportation recommending the expansion of the entire length of Weaver Dairy Road to three lanes. Although the focus of Monday's Town Council meeting was the vote to approve the proposed expansion, council members similarly emphasized a commitment to the future of Chapel Hill.

Meal Plan Hits Streets

Students now have an alternative to campus dining services -- the Carolina Meal Plan, which offers them the opportunity to use a prepaid debit card at 22 local restaurants. The Carolina Meal Plan, in its first year of existence, is operated by the Campus Dining Network, a national organization that offers alternative meal plans to combat the "limited menu choices, inflexible hours and rising cost" of traditional university meal plans, according to its Web site.
