The ongoing investigation into a 10-year-old girl’s disappearance from Hickory has left its mark on Chapel Hill. A bone that might belong to Zahra Baker, who has been missing since Oct. 9, was sent to the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill last week in an effort to gather initial information.
Justice United in Community Effort, a non-partisan citizens’ group, led about 100 people from a news conference at the United Church of Chapel Hill on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to vote at the Robert and Pearl Seymour Center voting poll on Homestead Road.
About 400 people gathered in Pittsboro on Sunday to celebrate the variety — and versatility — of the pepper. The third annual Pittsboro Pepper Festival was held at The Plant in the Piedmont Biofuels Eco-Industrial Park, where participants gathered to eat local cuisine, listen to live music and sample different types of peppers. “This is the best turnout we’ve had in all three years of the festival,” said Production Manager of Piedmont Biofuels Jeremy Rushlow.
