Chapel Hill walkability depends on sidewalks
By Dave Cowan | April 24Sylvia and John Clements lived almost 40 years in their house at 1603 Curtis Road without a disturbance. But last summer, much of the lower portion of their lawn was uprooted to make room for a new sidewalk. The construction was just a small part of Chapel Hill's long-range Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan. Adopted in October 2004, the plan aims to "develop a balanced, multimodal transportation system that will enhance mobility for all citizens, reduce automobile dependence, and preserve/enhance the character of Chapel Hill."
