Jensen snags endorsement from Dems.

After a fiery debate Monday, Tom Jensen took home the Young Democrats’ endorsement in the first forum of this year’s student body president campaign. While all candidates did a great job and presented good ideas, Jensen’s ideas spoke to the majority of the group’s members, said Blakely Whilden, co-president of Young Democrats. Jensen, who has been a member of Young Democrats since his freshman year, served as party affairs director last fall and was key in organizing campaign operations.

Speaker discusses the origins of Thanksgiving traditions

Thanksgiving came early this year for more than 80 students who attended "The Real Thanksgiving: The Past, Present and Future of Native Americans." The event, co-sponsored by the Carolina Indian Circle and the Connor Residence Hall community, featured a speech by Margaret O'Shaughnessey and a catered dinner by Boston Market. O'Shaughnessey is a professor in the Department of English who teaches a literary diversity class focusing on Native American issues. Her speech highlighted the origins of Thanksgiving traditions.

Drug arouses UNC studies

Until recently, two options have been available for male contraception - condoms and vasectomies. But new research stemming from UNC laboratories has discovered that a natural protein produces an immune reaction in the male reproductive system that, when made into an immunization, could work as a nonhormonal male contraceptive. The shot would allow men to regain fertility after stopping treatment, and would not force them to rely on taking pills daily, wearing condoms, or getting a vasectomy - which usually proves irreversible.
