As the Orange and Alamance boards of county commissioners debated altering county lines at a Monday meeting, residents and officials expressed concern over how their property lines would be affected. County officials are proposing a county line that is straighter. The new line would affect about 20 properties, all within 150 feet of the current line.
Though Carrboro maintenance projects have delayed construction on a new community garden, fundraising for the project is already well on its way. Carrboro Alderman Lydia Lavelle said that the board will not directly back the Baldwin Park garden financially and that funding will be left to the Carrboro Parks Project.
More than 20 residents rallied around the Chapel Hill Town Hall Monday evening to protest the recent termination of two solid waste workers. Kerry Bigelow and Clyde Clark were fired from sanitation jobs Oct. 29 and filed their grievances with the town Friday afternoon. Town officials declined to comment on the issue, citing personnel privacy.
With Homecoming taking place the Saturday before Halloween and classes looming the morning after, this year’s celebrations could expand to more than one night. But town officials said they expect crowds on Saturday only for the game, and this year’s “Homegrown Halloween” celebration will be confined to Sunday.

A local day care is aiming to combat obesity after receiving a grant to improve its outdoor facilities. Preventing Obesity by Design, an N.C. State University program created to improve children’s health, is looking to implement a playground project to fight obesity at Chapel Hill Day Care Center.
