After averaging 92 points per game through its first five games, North Carolina managed only 54 points against the Demon Deacons due to a poor shooting night and 15 turnovers.
North Carolina's defense did not seem to have an answer for the Demon Deacons' offense in the second half, allowing 38 points.
After starting the 2019-20 season at a perfect 8-0, the Tar Heels lost each of their last eight games. This season, they'll rely on a mix of veterans and this year's highly-touted recruiting class to turn things around.
“Just seeing them light up and be so excited to be in the gym again with their friends and somewhat be normal has made it all worth it,” Young said. “They are willing to do anything it takes to have a season.”
A powerful header by senior Matt Constant off of a set piece cross from junior Milo Garvanian gave the Tar Heels an early lead over the Blue Devils, one they would keep despite hard-nosed play by both teams for the 2-0 victory.
