O.C. Won't Join Suit For Now
By Gillian Bolsover and Brian Meares | September 19Orange County officials say they will not join a lawsuit for millions of dollars in withheld funding unless a state consortium of counties sanctions the case. Six N.C. counties and several municipalities filed the lawsuit this week because they did not receive reimbursement for $334 million that Gov. Mike Easley withheld in February to contend with the state's $1 billion budget shortfall. Roughly $3.1 million was witheld from Orange County. Easley's press office declined to comment on pending legislation.
