'New urbanism' movement seeks walkable communities
By Gregg Binder | April 24To counteract congested local roads and the emergence of new highways there is a movement called "new urbanism" on the rise. Based on principles of planning and architecture that work together to create walkable communities, new urbanism emerged as a popular movement in the 1980s and early 1990s. The creation and return of diverse, walkable, compact, vibrant, mixed-use communities is the goal of the movement.
