Students connect with Israeli heritage

Colin Sutker spent the worst night of his life during his winter excursion to Israel. He was sick and stuck sleeping in a tent shared by 200 people while touring the Negev Desert. “It was warm, we were in dirty sleeping bags, and a lot of other people were sick, so it was just like an incubator of disease,” said Sutker, a senior journalism and political science major. He wasn’t ready to pack his bags, though. Instead, the experience made him realize how significant this adventure really was for him.

Students have a ball at presidential bash

WASHINGTON, D.C. — While most were content to sip their Korbel champagne one glass at a time, the younger crowd that gathered to celebrate the 55th presidential inauguration Thursday preferred to hit up makeshift bars for entire bottles. “You only get one chance at this life thing, and I’m going to make the most of it,” said Taylor Rankin, a 2003 UNC graduate, before he poured himself a cup from a bottle emblazoned with the inaugural seal.

Web log tracks grad progress

After the Carolina blue graduation caps have been tossed and the photos have been taken next to the Old Well, many seniors leave UNC and stop leaving traces of their time here. But for eight young alumni, cyberspace has created a loophole to the tradition. With the help of the General Alumni Association, several members of the class of 2004 have been participating in a Web-logging project in which they chronicle their transition from the University into the real world.
