“I mean to me, poetry is not just about poems, it’s about the creative impulse,” Fred Joiner, Carrboro’s poet laureate since 2019 said. “I think Carrboro prides itself on being a town that celebrates creativity, that celebrates discovery and learning.”
“The peels that I collect are aged by moisture and air, bleached by sunlight – they’re almost cameraless photographs themselves, and documenting them has taken on a life of its own,” Metivier said. “Maybe part of me wanted an excuse to fill the gallery with dried peels that are spilling out of my studio and apartment, but I also see Peel as a multi-layered art space. It’s all accumulation – the accretion of layers, images, textures, moments and memories.”
“You think about your memories or your perceptions or even the histories that you learned about in school, and there are so many different interpretations,” Murasugi said. “There are so many different points of view, and in my work I like to remind myself of that. Hopefully the viewer can grasp that, too.”
This will be AnnaBanana Jewlery's third year contributing to the Jewels of Hope fundraiser, which is organized by Carolina Women in Business and benefits the Orange County Rape Crisis Center.
