Many Chapel Hill evenings spent on Franklin Street include the sounds of local musician "Trumpet Monk," who had a career as a successful guitarist before returning to the area. One of his main motivations is community outreach through music, of a kind that isn't limited to those who can afford live performances.
After the end of a pilot tennis and pickleball shared-use program on Friday, March 24, the Town of Chapel Hill announced a plan to increase outdoor public pickleball courts from 11 courts to 21 courts. During the shared-use plan, temporary pickleball lines were marked on two tennis courts at Ephesus Park. The Town gave tennis and pickleball players priority to use the courts at different times.
Bul Box, a fast, casual Asian cuisine restaurant, opened its newest location on West Franklin Street on Monday, March 20. Jaeyeon Kim, Bul Box's director of operations, described the restaurant as an “Asian Chipotle,” where you can order signature boxes named after cities like “Tokyo Box” or “Shanghai Box." You can also create your own with chosen ingredients.
The Town of Chapel Hill has been given an “A" ranking by environmental nonprofit CDP for 2022 to recognize the Town’s vision, achievements and commitment in the fight against climate change. But some, like Chapel Hill Town council member Adam Searing, disagree with the ranking.
Orange County Living Wage has updated its 2023 hourly living wage to $16.60, or $15.10 for employers who pay at least half of employees’ health insurance costs. This is a 75-cent increase from last year's living wage.

Southern Village’s Live Music on the Village Green series concluded this Sunday, but Sept. 22's open mic and karaoke night will be the last music event of the year. The series wrapped up the last of its professional performances on Sept. 18 with a performance by the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra.
