“We’re out here today because we are celebrating the new energy-efficient LED lights in Kenan Stadium and Carmichael Arena,” Sustainable Carolina communications and engagement specialist Abigail Brewer said. “Those are made possible through the Champion Sustainability fund.”
Founded by Will Tyndall and Evan Aycock in the summer of 2020, Hoops on the Hill has changed what attending a summer basketball camp looks like in Chapel Hill. The inclusive and loosely-structured camp excelled by inviting children of all ages, genders and skill levels to take part in the sport.
“The Carolina experience is one like no other. Incoming students, I hope you know that Carolina game days are some of the best parts of being a student at UNC,” Pragya Upreti, Carolina Fever member, said.
On Monday, June 12, the UNC women's tennis and field hockey teams traveled to Washington, D.C., to be recognized for their accomplishments and respective national titles.
The Tar Heels fell to the Clemson Tigers 10-4 on Saturday in the ACC Tournament. Two of those four runs for North Carolina were gained off of junior catcher Tomas Frick’s electric performance during his turn at bat.
Despite two home runs from Tomas Frick, UNC was unable to overcome the offensive firepower of Clemson in the ACC tournament semifinals, falling 10-4. Up next for the Diamond Heels will be the NCAA tournament, with the seeding to be announced on Monday.
"Sometimes you gotta get a big hit to get everyone going," junior Mac Horvath said. "Once you get that hit, everyone starts feeling more confident and comfortable at the plate. As a team, everyone collectively comes together and starts putting out better at-bats."
The Tar Heels defeated the Yellow Jackets 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Next up for the Diamond Heels is a match-up against the No. 2 seed Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday at 3 p.m.
The North Carolina softball team (10-19, 1-5 ACC) fell to No. 16 Duke (24-5, 7-2 ACC), 8-0 to wrap up its weekend series.
While the Tar Heels have never lost to the Panthers, this year's matchup may be more challenging than usual, as Pittsburgh boasts an 11-1 record and Carolina struggles to regroup from defensive losses.
