Vietnamese dance makes U.S. premiere at memorial Hall

Vietnamese choreographer/performer Ea Sola will present her work, "Drought and Rain, Volume II," for its U.S. premiere as a part of the Carolina Performing Arts Series this week. She and an ensemble of 12 hand-picked dancers from the Hanoi National Ballet of Vietnam will take the Memorial Hall stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday. "The movements are much less traditional than you might see in more mainline, contemporary dance companies," said Emil Kang, executive director for the arts for the Carolina Performing Arts Series. "Their work is much more individual."

Former student searches for Hollywood fame

An anonymous friend slipped Erin White the key to a ritzy apartment complex in Studio City, Calif. The key has been passed down for years, its owner gaining access to a world where the well-heeled lease space fit for Hollywood royalty. The aspiring singer and actress, who graduated from UNC in May, blends in here. Next to the pool, fiddling with her broken iPod (which she cannot afford to replace, she said), she indulges in the privileges of her new membership.
