County commissioners to discuss landfill solutions

A report will be presented tonight to the Orange County Board of Commissioners recommending improvements to local waste centers. But a solution to the solid waste problem is still nowhere in sight. The solid waste management work group will present a follow-up report on the board’s December 2009 decision to divert solid waste to the Durham Transfer Station for the next three to five years as the county landfill reaches capacity.

Chapel Hill church works to save planet

Most churches aim to save souls, but one Chapel Hill congregation is also working to save the planet. Church of Reconciliation on North Elliott Road is one of the first churches in the country to adopt the Earth Care Congregation program created in July by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Hillsborough food center set to open next year

An official ground breaking ceremony commemorated a space that could soon revolutionize the way area farms do business. The Piedmont Food & Agricultural Processing Center, a business incubator that will serve 22 counties, hosted the ceremony Wednesday in Hillsborough.
