Researchers share HIV research advancements

In what amounted to a State of the Union address on the University’s efforts to cure and stymie the spread of HIV, a group of researchers presented their findings Wednesday in honor of World AIDS Day. From a topical gel that curbs the transfer of HIV to producing enzymes that train cells to “ignore” the virus, researchers presented their findings before a crowd of about 130 that gathered in the Center for Bioinformatics for the twelfth annual World AIDS Day Symposium.

CAA to bury the campus in events

During this year’s RAMpage Homecoming week, the Carolina Athletic Association is encouraging UNC students to “Bury William and Mary.” The CAA is hosting a number of events in the Pit every weekday from 11 p.m. to 2 p.m. There will be night events as well.

Forum discusses potential effects of oil spill on N.C.

Four University professors discussed the long term effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on North Carolina beaches Wednesday. They explained things like how underwater oil plumes disperse, how petroleum affects near shore ecosystems and the liabilities caused by the oil spill.
