This Tuesday, you will vote on a referendum that asks if our university should remain in the UNC-system Association of Student Governments. As your student body president, I urge you to vote “Yes.”
At Thursday’s Board of Governors budget and finance committee meeting, UNC-system President Thomas Ross’s tuition plan passed by a vote of 5-1. But the discussion surrounding the vote was still contentious, and its subject has the potential to change the character of UNC even more than the highest tuition increase would.
In this column space yesterday, you read a column from Mark Laichena, who reminded you that even though the Board of Trustees voted to raise UNC’s in-state tuition by 40 percent during the next five years, the tuition debate isn’t over.
It’s been more than seven months since the Cooper Administration took office. Though it’s a little hard to believe how fast the time is flying by, we are excited about what we have accomplished so far and what we will accomplish in the next few months.
