'You Kill Me' doesn't slay with laughter or drama

MOVIEREVIEW You Kill Me 3 stars "You Kill Me" has the interesting premise and the cast needed for a successful movie, but doesn't quite knock 'em dead. The film is a dark comedy about Frank, an alcoholic hit man, whose addiction interferes with his job performance. Consequently, Frank is sent from Buffalo, N.Y., to California for recovery by his Polish mafia boss. But Frank's story alone isn't developed enough to warrant a film solely about his struggles.

Little magic in latest 'Potter'

MOVIEREVIEW Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 2.5 stars "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" attempts to cast a spell on audience members, but the film is merely satisfactory and by no means spectacular. And while the mood of the film is much darker than the previous four in the "Potter" series, Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter, doesn't offer enough dynamic acting to do more than keep to the story.

'La Vie' too French, sad for American audiences

MOVIEREVIEW La Vie En Rose 2.5 stars In the new film, "La Vie En Rose," several French characters discuss how American people of the 1930s will never really "get" the Parisian chanteuse, Edith Piaf. Unfortunately the same goes for Americans today and this film. For those not familiar with the life of the singer, the chronology of her story is confused by many disjointed scenes from parts of her life, which play out in no particular order. And Piaf's story is not interesting enough to warrant 140 minutes. The jist of the film is one we have seen before.

Directors combine strengths in 'Paris'

MOVIEREVIEW Paris Je T'aime 4 stars It is easy to fall in love with "Paris, Je T'aime's" star filled cast and unique directing styles. But it's the refreshing originality of this unusual film that make it one of this summer's absolute must-sees. The film is a collection of 18 short films by 21 internationally acclaimed filmmakers, all united by the common theme of love in the City of Love itself. "Paris, Je T'aime" stays interesting by depicting almost as many different types of love as there are directors.

'Pirates' still can't match first movie

MOVIEREVIEW Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End 2 stars The "Pirates of the Caribbean" series has everything moviegoers want out of a summer blockbuster: action, romance and enough CGI to hook anybody in. But "At World's End," like the second film in the series, lacks the quality of the original. "At World's End" continues to diverge from the merits of the trilogy's first movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl", and has the same problems as "Dead Man's Chest."
