Union Gallery hosts local sculptor’s work

Chapel Hill sculptor Dan Murphy has displayed his work in the Union Gallery before. But his high creative energy means this current collection of gold and silver metal sculptures is something completely different. The exhibition is part of the Carolina Union Activities Board’s efforts to offer more 3-D art in its galleries.

Ben Sollee returns to play at Memorial Hall tonight

Folk artist Ben Sollee brings an unusual approach to his profession. With his bow and fingers, he uses the cello — a traditional classical instrument — as a way to explore modern folk and soul music. Sollee is performing a concert at Memorial Hall tonight with fiddle player Carrie Rodriguez as a part of the Carolina Performing Arts series.

GLBTSA fashion event was also a fundraiser

For men, finding women’s clothes that fit might be a hassle. But the drag queens who starred in the UNC Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight Alliance’s fall drag show, “Dirty Pop,” said they never have that problem. “You basically just go into a store like Bebe and say, ‘I need some clothes to dress in drag,’ and they are like ‘Okay, girl, we’ve got you!’” said 2010 alumnus George Drometer, who helped put together the show while taking part.
