After serving as the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools superintendent for more than four years, Nyah Hamlett announced on Wednesday afternoon that she will depart from the position at the district on June 30.
The N.C. Supreme Court issued an order on Tuesday morning prohibiting the North Carolina State Board of Elections from certifying Democratic Incumbent Justice Allison Riggs as the winner in the race for a seat on the N.C. Supreme Court.
With 99 percent of precincts reported, the N.C. Supreme Court seat 6 race remains too close to call. Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs has won 50.03 percent of the vote, while Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin has won 49.97 percent of the vote.

North Carolina has the 4th highest percentage of medical debt in the country. According to 2022 data from the Urban Institute, 20 percent of North Carolina residents have medical debt — equating to more than 2 million individuals.
