On April 19, the N.C. House passed House Bill 574, also known as the Fairness in Women's Sports Act. This new legislation would prohibit transgender female athletes from participating in women’s sports teams at the middle school, high school and college levels.
The UNC Center for the Study of Retired Athletes is a place for research to be conducted regarding sports-related concussions and the correlation between mental and physical health, placing a focus on retired athletes. The center is currently working with both the NFL and women's soccer to delve further into research.

The UNC wrestling team is finally receiving new practice mats after plans for a new wrestling facility were unfortunately halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019. Head coach Coleman Scott sees the new room as a reward for the program's success.
