'Problem Solved' — A Comedy Debut

On Friday, Oct. 11, UNC student Spence Whitman headlined his debut comedy performance, “Problem Solved,” at the Varsity Theatre on Franklin Street. This sold-out show attracted a mix of fans familiar with Whitman’s comedic sketches in the UNC comedy group False Profits and newcomers who heard about his performance through friends or social media.AV Desk senior staffer Emma Kate Lauf takes us through the day of Whitman’s solo debut, as he prepares to perform his first-ever sold out venue.

'Everybody is an artist': Community members collage their clutter in junk journals

Local artists and everyday people alike, either in workshops on their bedside tables, craft their own versions of a junk journal, a creative diary which takes many forms as a medium of self-expression, storing various moments or themes of someone's life experiences. Currently a trend on TikTok, UNC students and locals speak on their own junk journals in a practice that has been going on for centuries.
