Various students at UNC name their college homes to make the temporary living spaces feel more like homes, usually naming them for some unique characteristic like the home's exterior color.
On Friday, Oct. 11, UNC student Spence Whitman headlined his debut comedy performance, “Problem Solved,” at the Varsity Theatre on Franklin Street. This sold-out show attracted a mix of fans familiar with Whitman’s comedic sketches in the UNC comedy group False Profits and newcomers who heard about his performance through friends or social media.AV Desk senior staffer Emma Kate Lauf takes us through the day of Whitman’s solo debut, as he prepares to perform his first-ever sold out venue.
On Nov. 2, students and fans lined up outside the Carolina Union for an exclusive viewing of a new episode from the current season of Survivor, with Survivor-themed photo ops and opportunities to meet former UNC alumni, Crystal Cox and Sabrina Thompson, who were both contestants in previous seasons of the show.
About 20 artists from around the world participated in the annual electronic arts event, Slingshot Festival, at The Fruit in Durham on Friday and Saturday. Many of these artists combine unique electronic elements with traditional music composition.
Local artists and everyday people alike, either in workshops on their bedside tables, craft their own versions of a junk journal, a creative diary which takes many forms as a medium of self-expression, storing various moments or themes of someone's life experiences. Currently a trend on TikTok, UNC students and locals speak on their own junk journals in a practice that has been going on for centuries.
Artists and patrons alike convened on Saturday for the launch of the 36th annual Sculpture in the Garden exhibit at the North Carolina Botanical Garden, which featured 86 sculptures from 66 North Carolina-based artists.
